Natural Doctrine is a 2014 tactical RPG, it is developed by Kadokawa Games and published by NIS America. It is available exclusively to Playstation consoles.
The well-received Natural Doctrine has finally been released to American gamers. This fun gem uses strategy and RPG elements to help players continue forward in the story. Gameplay allows for multiple tactics in order to defeat your enemies, however the difficulty of your enemies is all it takes to stop your strategy in it tracks and lead to possible defeat.
THE GOOD: If you’re into strategy games and RPG games, then Natural Doctrine is a fantastic combination. The game has a classic RPG feel with treasure gathering and anime-ish looks. With each battle the game gets harder and harder as you progress in the story. As time goes on more party members who can aid you in long range and magic/support will join the group to help make things easier for you.
I enjoyed how much freedom the attack grid allowed you during battle. Despite some turn based actions, the map allowed for pretty much all kinds of movement the background music and OST was also very charming. Difficulty would make for rather interesting gameplay, often leading to failure which causes players to re-think their strategy.
THE BAD: The difficulty would often cause for multiple re-attempts at moving forward in the story. This would cause forced stops on progression quite often, which was fairly annoying.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Natural Doctrine is likely going to be one of the sleeper hits of 2014, it’s great gameplay and OST provides hours of joy for RPG fans of any kind. The attack grid was a unique way to get your party over to the enemy for attack, and the freedom was very welcoming. The difficulty, while appreciated would often cause a pause in progression due to tougher enemies always one upping you.
