Black Cat is back in The Hiest.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps is the three part expansion of the base game and it ties together some of the loose ends left over from it: including Miles Morales, Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, and others. In The Hiest Black Cat has enlisted Spider-Man’s help in dealing with a mob boss who apparently has her son which may be Peter’s. In Turf Wars mob boss Hammerhead has caused a wave of destruction in New York by sparking gang wars across the city.

The Hiest is a solid, but short first expansion into Marvel’s Spider-Man.

THE GOOD: New challenges and a story to boot are what you get with the first DLC entry of Marvel’s Spider-Man in The Hiest. A dangerous mob boss has what may be her and Peter’s son and he has Hardy stealing data which could shake the foundation of the criminal underground in New York. After encountering Spider-Man and informing him of the situation, the two team up to take the data and end the mob boss. This is naturally a trick and Black Cat plans to sell the data on the black market herself. After crossing her previous employer Black Cat finds herself with an apartment rigged with a bomb and supposedly dies in the explosion.

Hammerhead in Marvel’s Spider-Man.

In part two of three of “The City That Never Sleeps” Spider-Man takes on Hammerhead. Who seemingly has a very storied history with Detective Yuri, his longtime partner. Noticing a continuously evolving change in behavior for Yuri, Spider-Man tries to keep her out of the Hammerhead affairs, especially when two agents close to her get murdered by him. After taking the other mob bosses in New York City hostage and stealing powerful Sable Tech technology, Hammerhead plans to film the deaths of the mob bosses and broadcasting it across the city. Spider-Man and Hammerhead collide in a battle that ends with Detective Yuri apparently killing Hammerhead in cold blood due to her old grudge getting the best of her.

Detective Yuri takes center stage in Turf Wars.

Each DLC have their own unique strengths and weaknesses for example The Hiest introduces some fun new side missions like for The Hiest the introduction of the Screwball challenge missions which are basically take down challenges, but the photo bomb mechanic is a nice add on to give it some extra flavor. Meanwhile, Turf Wars has an increased difficulty with new enemies not seen in the base game such as the Sable Tech shield mobsters. Turf Wars also has the stronger story and longer play time.

The first two entries of “The City That Never Sleeps” are solid expansions to Sony’s Spider-Man title.

THE BAD: While a good intro to the new content, The Hiest is really short and most will be able to complete it with a 100% in about 3 or so hours.

The Turf Wars DLC changes Marvel’s Spider-Man to impressive levels with small updates such as new enemies and increased difficulty.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: The Hiest is a decent entry point, but Turf Wars really picks things up to a dramatic degree. Full of challenge, character development, and an excellent story behind. If the finale of “The City That Never Sleeps” ends with a bang it could go down as one of the greatest pieces of downloaded content this generation.
