Loadout is a hell of a lot of fun, nothing more needs to be said.

Load is a 2014 free-to-play arena shooter that is developed & published by Edge of Reality. It is available on PC & Mac via Steam.

If there was ever a reason to believe that the free-to-play model could work if time and effort was put into the product, then Loadout would be it. This wildly insane, cartoony, bloody shooter features a number of great mechanics. From it’s gameplay to it’s fantastic amount of customization. If anyone overlooks Loadout just because of the simple fact that its F2P, then they’re robbing themselves of a memorable gaming experience.

THE GOOD: When you play Loadout, perhaps one of, if not the absolute greatest things about it you’ll notice is it’s extensive customization options. From weapons, to costumes Loadout’s level of customization is crazy extensive. If you want to give your character a hockey mask while wearing a suit so he looks like the most bad ass of assassin’s then do it. If you want to customize a rocket launcher into an even more deadly form of itself do it!. While some customization options are paid for using in-game currency known as blutes and gold, the pre-set customization still provides a bit of freedom.

If Loadout had been around during the early 2000s it would have done arena fans proud. Gameplay of Loadout is pretty solid, the barrage of bullets and God knows what else is such a sight to behold. I can’t recall how many players are allowed in one match, but it looked to be at or over 8 from what I remember. There’s a short of practice mode for new players to face off against other rookie players. The other mode is competitive, which gives players to do ranked matches and what not.

Loadout also features a skill tree which increases weapon power and other abilities. Players rank up with the game’s leveling system as their character gains XP, you can buy XP boosters with the in-game currency.

THE BAD: Some of the items that you buy might seem a little pricey to some. I don’t know if it was me, but I had a bit of an issue while playing. I couldn’t turn my character and shoot at the same time, which was extremely annoying, though I probably wouldn’t have had such a problem if I had played the game with a gamepad rather than a touchpad mouse.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Loadout is fantastic fun, the cartoony gore and great gameplay gives the F2P model attention for even the biggest of nay sayers. The huge amount of customization is so great that it gives an almost infinite amount of personal touch to players. Some of the items might be a bit pricey, and there was a camera issue while shooting (at least for me), but Loadout will definitely be a game both online and third person shooter fans will be talking about and playing for a very long time.
