LEGO Harry Potter is back in HD, this time around the games are exclusive to Playstation 4. The final game in the LEGO adaptation series that lacks voice over work, LEGO Harry Potter provides the same mindless, destructible fun that previous LEGO video games have offered in years past.
LEGO Harry Potter Collection is an 2016 HD remaster compilation of the original games LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 and LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7, it is developed by TT Games, and published by WB Interactive Entertainment, it is available exclusively for Playstation 4.
Anybody who’s been with the LEGO gaming franchise long enough knows it’s known for it’s longevity, replay value, destructible mayhem, and hours of mindless fun. In LEGO Harry Potter Collection you’re getting two relatively long games (in gameplay hours) with plenty to do after having completed the main story. With tons of characters to unlock, hours within the base story, and much more you’ll find yourself lost in the series, especially if it’s your first outing into the LEGO Harry Potter series.
THE GOOD: Gameplay is as great as any LEGO adaption, there’s tons of replay value, characters to unlock, and things to do through the main game and free play. Mindless fun is perhaps the most attractive feature of LEGO Harry Potter, though this is nothing new with the LEGO games franchise. It feels like a genuine Harry Potter game, the LEGO silliness aside of course.
THE BAD: Voice acting replaced by grunts and reactionary noises is quite annoying, some glitches are present from the original releases of the games.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: LEGO Harry Potter Collection is a fine homage to what would be considered the experimental phase in the LEGO games. It suffers from a lack of voice acting which was common in phase 1 LEGO games, but the fun gameplay, mindless destruction, and replay value definitely make up for its faults.
