Suda 51’s follow-up to the acclaimed No More Heroes has finally been released, is it worth a pick up? Find out in our review.
Killer is Dead is a 2013 self-aware action game, it is developed and published by X Seed Games and Grasshopper Manufacturer.
THE GOOD: Killer is Dead is a very good looking game, there’s some fun gameplay in it and upgrades a plenty. The score has a nice energetic like feel, and some interesting gameplay mechanics gives players a good time for awhile. Extras were pretty strange such as exterminating bugs or trying to impress a girl for a weapon upgrade.
Killer is Dead’s crazy blood mode.
The fast paced action and gameplay is reminiscent of Suda’s previous franchise/title No More Heroes. And some of the finishers and blood mode were fun to use.
You play as Mondo, an assassin who’s lost his memory.
THE BAD: Some of the voice acting is annoyingly bad, and more specifically for the character Mika, she was just pure annoyance. Using the same moves over and over again got tiresome.
Mondo’s drill arm.
THE UGLY: Most of the time it felt like there was virtually no challenge at all. From bosses to even the more powerful enemies the challenge was extremely limited or completely lost, in fact I only recall dying a few times (likely 2-3) around the beginning of the game, and remained alive since. Sometimes it felt dragged and you just wanted it to end.
Oh Mika your annoyance made this game painful.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: While Killer is Dead has its moments, the game also has problems. There’s a lot of extras such as side quests and upgrades, but a dragging story and annoying voice acting makes it hard to get through the game. There was almost a nonexistence as far as challenge and difficulty went.
