It’s the Shonen Jump tournament of the ages, as an incredibly large roster of characters from the long-running manga magazine face off in this Playstation exclusive. Featuring a huge roster of characters from Hunter X Hunter, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and more, J-Stars Victory VS+ has these characters duking it out in an all out free for all battle. From single one on one battles to two on two, J-Stars Victory VS+’s roster and maps provide a lot of content for anime and manga fans.
J-Stars Victory VS+ is an 2015 fighting game, it is developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Bandai Namco exclusively for Playstation consoles.
If you’re a fan 0f mainstream anime such as Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball, then J-Stars Victory is already up your alley. Featuring a roster of a huge number of Shonen Jump characters from Dragon Ball to Toriko, the game has you facing off in one one one to two on two to three on three battles (third member being support). While battles can be relatively quick, J-Stars Victory VS+ is a fun ride if even for the purpose of just killing some time.
THE GOOD: In J-Stars Victory VS+ you choose one of several Shonen Jump characters to face off in a tag team or a single duel. The fights can be fun, and if you’re a fan of many or even just a few of these franchises, it’s a real treat seeing your favorite characters duke it out on one screen. J-Stars’ adventure mode features four characters, Goku, Naruto, Ichigo, and Luffy as they enter the J-Star tournament with a team of companions from different Shonen Jump franchises in order to win a wish that can be granted by a “God”. One of the most admirable aspects of J-Stars Victory VS+ is the graphics, it looks like a mix of 3D, cel-shaded, and claymation and really helps flesh out and bring the characters together.
THE BAD: There aren’t very many modes in J-Stars Victory VS+ unfortunately, and because of this things can get a little boring, especially if you don’t play online. The fights ending in a matter of minutes is also a bit of a disappointment, but rules can be adjusted to make the fights as long as possible.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: J-Stars Victory VS+ is a fun mash up of great Shonen Jump franchises in one fighting game. Although the fights a relatively quick, they are fun, and it’s great for killing time. The limited amount of modes leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately, and J-Stars Victory VS+ doesn’t live up to its fullest potential because of it. However, this is a fighter for Shonen Jump fans of all types to pick up, even if to wait for it to be a bit cheaper.
