The latest installment of Disney Infinity finally brings the long awaited inclusion of Star Wars. After last year’s successful Marvel introduction, Disney Interactive is looking to keep its toy to life title going for years to come. The out of box story takes place after the events of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, with main characters Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Yoda searching for the person responsible for the attempted rise of a new droid army.
Disney Infinity 3.0 is an 2015 toy to life video game, it is developed by Avalanche Software and published by Disney Interactive. It is available on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, IOS, and Android.
Having played the previous two Disney Infinity titles, I was thrilled with the announcement of Star Wars being included with the latest edition to the franchise. This now means that every major Disney property is apart of this universe, except maybe a few characters either due to licensing or not being in the pages for the time being. With previous action figures and playsets being compatible thanks to Disney Infinity’s backwards compatibility, Disney Infinity is heavy with content with every new edition released. The only question now is, where could Disney possible go with the franchise with the inevitable 4.0 Edition?
THE GOOD: Like previous installments, Disney Infinity 3.0 brings the goods from a content standpoint, especially if you’ve kept your previously owned toy sets and figures from the last installment of the series. Playtime wise, Twilight of the Republic, gives you a fair amount to work with, including three worlds and side quests to tide you over until you feel like booting up a previously unused playset, or buying one akin to the 3.0 universe. The toy box also got some noticeable upgrades with players being able to customize their own homes and more.
THE BAD: The prices for the action figures and play sets can still be up there in retail, and requires some searching online for cheaper options. It was also a tad disappointing having some key Disney characters becoming exclusive to the toy box.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: With plenty of content to work with and tons of gameplay hours per play set, Disney Infinity 3.0 is easily the largest installment in the franchise. The backwards compatibility is always a plus with each coming edition, and tones down paying the often high retail price of newer figures. There’s still the disappointment of toy box exclusive figures, but Disney Infinity 3.0 will keep players busy for quite some time rather they choose to do the story content or put in a few hours in the toy box.
