Dishonored closes the stories of Corvo, Emily, and Billy with the release of Death of the Outsider a standalone expansion taking place after the events of Dishonored 2. Focusing on new lead character Billy Lurk as she and Daud team up to kill the Outsider, she uses her stealth, supernatural powers, and assassination skills to take down those who dare to stand in the way of her final kill.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a 2017 expansion sequel to Dishonored 2, it is developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda, it is currently available on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
Editor’s Note: An Xbox One review copy for Dishonored: Death of the Outsider was provided by Bethesda.
Since launching in 2012 new Bethesda IP Dishonored gained a sizable fan base for it’s story, gameplay, and characters. Dishonored 2 put players in control of Corvo once again, however this time with the option to play as Emily for alternative storyline events, now in Death of the Outsider, players take on the role of Billy Lurk looking to kill the “black eyed man” aka the Outsider in the epic finale to the current Dishonored storyline.
THE GOOD: If there’s one thing that can be said about Bethesda’s expansions and continuations, it’s that they’re usually some of the most extensive, enjoyable downloadable content out, Death of the Outsider continues this by keeping Dishonored 2’s story going with an added extra 8-10 hour campaign. Playing as Billy is just as fun as playing as Corvo or Emily, and her character and writing is some of the most engaging of the three main leads. The freedom of being able to kill or spare your opponents at will is by far the most enjoyable aspect of Death of the Outsider. No longer are you shackled by a choice, although it should be noted that there is a lethal (bad) and nonlethal (good) ending regardless, but again this is an optional choice far more open than previously before.
THE BAD: It’s a little short in comparison to Dishonored 2, and when it gets going it ends up leaving you with a desire for more. There are also some glitches present that freeze the game from time to time.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Dishonored: Death of the Outsider brings about a phenomenal close to the current storyline with Billy Lurk ending it all. While not as long as predecessor Dishonored 2, Death of the Outsider is still an almost fully-fledged adventure with new characters and fresh perspectives. Glitches unfortunately can get in the way of a great experience more often than not.
