The $500 Million budgeted Destiny has been released to the public, while it doesn’t exactly exceed expectations, it doesn’t sway too far away from the hype enough to be shelved after a single game or two. However, if you’re into franchises such as Star Wars then the concept and story might be as close as we’ll get to a true Star Wars like experience, minus the light sabers of course.
Destiny is a 2014 action-adventure shooter game, it is developed by Bungie and published by Activision. It is available for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
When it comes right down to it Destiny is indeed a pretty damn solid shooter, however it hasn’t exactly capitalized it’s on potential. Being able to pick and choose between story and random raid missions and the like gives you a feel of freedom. You don’t have to continue the story, especially if you feel you’re too weak for a certain mission, you can spend your gaining XP and leveling up your character then moving on to story .
THE GOOD: Destiny is a damn good shooter, the online interaction and gameplay is fun as hell. The worlds are large in scale and they give you a lot of ground to cover in between missions. The difficulty always seemed balance, though there were some enemies that were ridiculously overpowered here and there. The controls make the game easy to pick up and play even for the biggest of FPS novice.
You get to choose three classes in Destiny, between the heavy hitting Titans, the speedy Hunters, and the mystical Warlocks. As you level up and gain experience points, your character gains new abilities such as gliding and other perks that help out in battle. It seems that your weapons also upgrade alongside your character as well such as increased firepower and ammunition limitations. Destiny is an fantastic experience for gamers who are sci-fi fans, jumping from world to world is an awesome experience, and the creature designs look great.
The MMOish aspects of Destiny is probably the best feature of the game, whether you’re playing with your friends or a bunch of randoms going crazy on a horde of enemies with bullets flying everywhere is always fun to see, riding your vehicle is also fun and you can use it to avoid unnecessary fighting should you choose to do so.
THE BAD: Destiny is a good shooter, but that’s about it. It isn’t this amazing accomplishment in gaming that we were all expecting it to be, but it’s still a damn good game. Playing by yourself can get a tad boring at times as well, and the large scale maps would often leave a feeling of emptiness sometimes.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Destiny is a great shooter when a ton of offerings, especially for sci-fi fans who just so happen to be gamers. However, that’s it’s main problem, it’s not the amazing game we’ve been waiting on, thankfully though it lives lives up a fair amount of its potential. Planet jumping is awesome, and the game feels like an designed-for-console MMOFPS, but the large maps will often feel empty, especially when playing alone, which is boring here and there. Still, these aspects, and mostly balanced difficulty makes Destiny an successful effort from Bungie post-Halo.
