Dark Souls III is the beginning of the end for Bandai Namco and From Software’s epic action RPG trilogy. Once again playing an Unkindled, players traverse the world full of homage to past games including Dark Souls I, II, Demon’s Souls, and even Bloodborne, in perhaps one of the best gaming finales in years.
Dark Souls III is an 2016 action RPG, it is developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco. It is available for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
The finale to the Dark Souls franchise is an fan service filled homage to all five games in the Dark Souls franchise (including Demon’s Souls, and the loosely based Bloodborne). While others will see the direction of Dark Souls III as lazy writing, the reality is there may not have been any other way to send off the legendarily difficult gaming series. Full of references from locations and enemy designs, Dark Souls III should make most if not all long time fans of From Software’s franchise happy.
THE GOOD: Regardless of whether or not you’re a seasoned or new Souls player, the series’ difficulty still holds up for most regardless or experience. Full of homages to previous entries from lower leveled enemies to mini bosses, Dark Souls III provides memorable imagery and scenery as the players traverse through the many different areas full of dangerous enemies.
THE BAD: Some bosses are a little easier than you’d think, this wouldn’t be so bad if there were less than a handful or so of these.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: The finale to Dark Souls III is an epic fan service filled finish to the long-running difficult From Software IP. Having it;s trademark difficulty in many ways raised, seasoned players may have an easier than expected time with the game. Admittedly more bosses than I’d care to name were a little too easy.
