The supposed definitive version of an already epic game has finally been released. How does the PC version truly stack up to it’s console counterpart?
Dark Souls II is an 2014 action-RPG. It is developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco. It is available on PC via Steam and other distributions.
After having spent A LOT of time with both the PC and console versions of Dark Souls II, I have to say that the core gameplay felt the same. However, there has been some serious changes made in comparison, and it helps broaden the experiences between the two a bit.
THE GOOD: If you read our console review you won’t see much of a difference in what we have to say, but I will say that the frame rate and overall smoothness of the PC did seem better compared to that of the console version. There weren’t many graphical hiccups seen, and those that are only last a few seconds more than anything. Playing with a controller felt pretty nice, and control wise it felt no different than popping the disc into my PS3 and playing from there,
THE BAD: Still the same difficulty issues with the console version of the game. Again, a game that prides itself on challenge and death doesn’t need an option to make the game more difficult, it should be apart of it’s natural core elements.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: The PC version of Dark Souls 2 is definitely far superior in terms of graphical comparison to it’s console counterpart. The game seems to run smoother and crispier as far as gameplay is concerned as well, however there are still difficulty issues, or an overall lack there of rather. Still the PC version is a few leaps ahead of it’s console opposite in more than a couple of ways.
