Activision has brought back the acclaimed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in a new HD remaster for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. This time developed by Raven Software and bundled with Legacy and above level copies of the latest entry into the long-running franchise Call of Duty: Infinity Warfare. Originally released in 2007, Modern Warfare changed the game for FPS shooters by focusing on current events in war, with modern weaponry, locations, and much more.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is an 2016 FPS remaster of the original 2007 game, it is developed by Raven Software, and published by Activision. It is currently available on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare helped shape the standard of current FPS shooters of today’s world. With excellent multiplayer, a fantastic campaign, and a respectable focus on real-world warfare, Modern Warfare became a fan favorite of the Call of Duty franchise and of the genre as a whole.
THE GOOD: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is exactly what it says it is, a remaster of a classic title with very little changed to make it feel like a modern game. The only true major differences are the HD graphics and dedicated servers for the multiplayer, everything else is 100% the same from top to bottom. No modes have been removed, nor does the game feel watered down in any shape. While it could be argued that a few new updates & additions might have done Modern Warfare Remastered some good, it just felt really unnecessary in this case.
THE BAD: While the full game isn’t unlocked yet, it has been confirmed that only a set number of MP maps will be available at launch, with the remainder being released in December as free DLC.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered may set the new standard for bare bones remaster in the future, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If anything it proves that an HD makeover doesn’t really need too much to feel like it belongs in the modern generation.
