The Blue Estate comic by Viktor Kalvachev has gotten it’s own video game for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. This rail shooter is full of jokes, vulgar language, bullet time, and some fun.
Blue Estate is a 2014 rail shooter, it is developed by Hesaw and published by Focus Home Interactive. It is available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
I’ve never read the Blue Estate comics by Viktor Kalvachev before, so I was unaware of how much of the comic the game covered, but it turns out Blue Estate is a prequel to it’s comic book predecessor. Even without having read the comic or knowing any kind of background on the characters, the game still manages to provide those new to the Blue Estate Universe enough fun and could get some interested in the comics.
THE GOOD: Blue Estate is a beautiful looking game with some fun gameplay, players use the motion controls and touchpad on the Playstation 4 to control player character Tony Luciano throughout most of the game. The good thing is that the game never feels too easy, you die constantly, but never to the point of frustration during some games such as Dark Souls and the like. There’s multiple weapons along the way and you can gain bonuses such as bullet time to increase your score or help you out of tight spots. Blue Estate’s levels are fairly lengthy for a rail shooter, which is another plus.
Multiple enemies will come at you and you have to be quick on your feet, or as mentioned you will die, and again it happens a lot if you’re not completely careful. Unlike the pistol, the different weapons you collect along the way have limited ammo, and there really is a point to preserve the bullets for those weapons. Certain kills such as head and nut shots also provide you with fun bonuses. You’ll also use the touchpad to do melee damage on certain enemies throughout the game. This is fun, but will sometimes get in the way when three or four other guys are throwing a barrage of bullets at you.
THE BAD: Blue Estate is awfully short, only about 7 missions long, and there isn’t much replay value. The cross-hair was also a bit of a consistent annoyance. It would need to be readjusted constantly, and would often get in the way during gameplay.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Blue Estate is a great rail shooter and looks absolutely beautiful to boot. Using the motion controls in the dual shock 4 was an excellent experience, though the cross hair would often get in the way of gameplay, and it would become an annoyance when three or four guys were flanking you at once. The game is also short, only about seven missions long, however the amount of weapons and fun times to be had makes it easy to over look Blue Estate’s small amount of flaws.
