Attack on Titan finally gets an official game adaptation on console from Koei Techmo. Though developed by Omega Force, it should be noted that Attack on Titan is not apart of the Musou genre the developers are most famous for, instead it is an action beat’em up, and works a hell of a lot better than expected. In fact it’s one of the best anime games in years.
Attack on Titan is an 2016 action beat’em up, it is developed by Omega Force, and published by Koei Techmo. It is is available on PC, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, and Xbox One.
Attack on Titan is a highly regarded fan favorite series due to it’s many twists, tragic story, and brutal gore. While there’s rarely comedy, the series is more known for it’s tough as nails tone and no holds barred action. The game is like most anime titles, a reiteration of the canon story, but the gameplay itself is so much fun that a fan can easily look past its issues in covering the series’ story.
THE GOOD: Firstly, the gameplay is some of the most fun I’ve experience from the many anime video games I’ve played throughout my life. It’s a very fast pace game, and often times it takes strategy and limitations to save fellow soldiers from being devoured by titans. There’s about seven or so playable characters from Eren to Mikasa to Armin to even Sasha. There’s also an online Expedition mode which you can play with your friends.
THE BAD: The retelling of the canon is a bit off from the anime and often suffers from this issue through it’s play through. There’s an option for gore, however it’s often useless as the gore is very laxed.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Attack on Titan is a fine anime game for fans and gamers in general. While it suffers from adaptation issues, Attack on Titan has excellent, enjoyable gameplay and saving soldiers from titans within a set time is a blast. Gore, however is mostly pointless which is disappointing from a fan perspective.
