The Playstation Vita classic hits consoles, how does this improved remake stack up to it’s handheld predecessor?
Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD is a n HD remake of the original Vita game, it is developed and published by Ubisoft. The game is available on PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD is a good remake of a decent handheld title, but a lot of what made the Assassin’s Creed franchise was missing from it. Such as complete and total free roaming, and no limitations on how to go about advancing through the game. While Liberation was an excellent first go at the franchise on handhelds, it still needed a bit of work to bring out the best of it.
THE GOOD: Liberation HD is a fun spin-off, and all of the basic Assassin’s Creed tools are there. Parkour, check, multiple weaponry for assassinating enemies, check, stealth kills and hiding, check. It’s very much an Assassin’s Creeed title even if not on console or PC. The story and the decision to go with a female protagonist was an awesome idea.
The core combat was pretty much the same as any other game in the series.
THE BAD: Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD is a decent remake of a decent game, but the forced stealth missions and lack of freedom compared to past titles was quite annoying. There was also an unnecessary level of difficulty during certain missions, and replaying them got annoying as well.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD is a decent try at moving a console title to a handheld and back to consoles again. The core elements of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is there, but some key gameplay elements are missing, such as the player’s freedom for the entirety of the game. The forced stealth missions and difficulty spikes during certain missions were incredibly annoying and made story progression a bit of a pain to get through.
