It’s old school in the current gen in our review of Aqua Kitty: Milk Mine Defenders.
Aqua Kitty: Milk Mine Defenders is an 2D side-scrolling shooter developed and published by Tikipod, it is available on PS Vita via PSN, Xbox Live Arcade, and will soon be released to PC and other platforms.
The Dual cannon in action.
THE GOOD: Aqua Kitty is obviously inspired by old school side scroller shooters like Space Invaders. You have dozens of enemies on screen simultaneously as you fight to protect a certain number of pods from the enemy type that can float up from the sea into the air, which when done causes said pod to explode, thus leaving you to defend the remaining pod(s). The old school music was great to listen to during gameplay. Power ups are in the game including dual cannons. bombs, and extra life.
Kaboom! Bad kitty, bad!
THE BAD: Sometimes the number of enemies would be ridiculous, and you would have absolutely no choice but to sacrifice pretty much every pod but one in order to stand a fighting chance against enemies.
The floating enemy that causes your pod to explode.
THE UGLY: The powers ups were extremely limited, I only recall encountering three, and as mentioned above, at times difficulty got a bit out of hand.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Aqua Kitty is a fun old school inspired 2D shooter, the music and gameplay is fantastic. Power ups were cool, but seemingly limited. Difficulty got so insane that you basically had no choice, but to sacrifice one or more of your pods in order to move on to the next level.
Hi – thanks for the review. If you find a level too hard, and can’t save
all the kittens, you can still move on (1 kitten saved unlocks the next
levels by it) and come back later once your gun is upgraded 🙂
