In what previously began as rumors last year, the story has seemingly gained far more traction this time around, as reports continue to support the rumor that Ben Affleck is out as Batman post-Justice League. Originally reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck has a long standing history of disappointment in the direction of the role. Being a fan of the source material, Affleck took up the scribe and directing duties of the solo Batman film before dropping out of the latter due to scheduling conflicts, thus being replaced by War For the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves. Reeves would reportedly scrape the script written by Affleck, which has likely added fuel to the fire of his disdain for the role as the Caped Crusader, and further pushing back the already delayed film. With the Nightwing film in development, it is quite possible that DC & WB could plan to write out the Bruce Wayne Batman in favor of Dick Grayson, or Damien Wayne, both of whom have taken on the Batman cowl in DC Comics. Affleck is currently scheduled to reprise his role in Justice League which premieres November 17, 2017, and The Batman (maybe?).
