Anime Studio MAPPA’s Rage of the Bahamut is a fun, but short ride into an fantasy anime adventure With a main character very reminiscent to that of Cowboy Bebop lead Spike, Rage’s first season has some nice art, a likable cast of characters, and a solid English dub cast.
Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis is an 2014 shounen anime series. It is produced by MAPPA, and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis is another anime exclusive by the young anime studio MAPPA. Founded by a former member of the team behind top notch anime studio Mad House, the resemblance in quality between Mad House and MAPPA titles is quite noticeable. Having been our second MAPPA review, I can say that it’s one of the few anime studios that can blend 2D animation and CGI together without it coming off as awful looking. The case is the same with Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis.
THE GOOD: Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis features a likable cast of characters both main and side. The English dub is actually pretty awesome and is full of dub voice actors you may recognize. Genesis further proves that MAPPA has found a respectable groove with the mix of 2D and CGI animation, something a lot of anime studios who attempt the blend often fail at.
THE BAD: Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis is only twelve episodes long, and while in development, season two can’t come soon enough.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis is a great anime title, albeit short. A dub that’s more than tolerable, a fun group of characters, and good animation, Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis should at the very least be given a chance by any hardcore anime fan. Otaku Dome gives Rage of the Bahamut: Genesis an 92 out of 100.
