Psycho Pass returns with a second season, a new lead character, and a new cast of characters. Taking place immediately following the events of the first season (and possibly the film), Psycho Pass season two stars co-lead character of season one; Akane Tsunemori, who now acts as lead inspector of Unit One. They search for new antagonist Kirito Kamui, who like previous antagonist Shogo intends to take down the Sybill System, but unlike Shogo he intends to do so by exploiting the flaws of the system rather than doing so through sheer wreaks of havoc.
Psycho Pass is an 2012 shounen anime series, it is produced Production I.G., and licensed by Funimation. Seasons One & Two are both currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Season Two of Psycho Pass follows the events of the Season One, with Akane now taking over a new incarnation of Unit One, with the only characters apart of the former group remaining being Ginoza & Yayoi. A new protagonists by the name of Kirito Kamui who has similar, but different ideals to Shogo, in that he looks to destroy the Sybill System by exploiting it’s flaws rather than doing so through destructive means.
THE GOOD: In Psycho Pass season two, Akane has become the leader of a brand new version of Unit One, thus replacing Shinya Kogami as the lead character from season one. This works fairly well as Akane had previously gained some insight on her world from Kohami, as well as her own ideals on the Sybill System during the final episodes of season one. The relationship between Akane and Kogami, who frequently butted heads, is mirrored through Akane and Mika Shimotsuki who made an appearance in season one, and became an inspector assigned to Akane’s team by the end of the season. This new relationship helps make season two feel right at home, while also providing a feeling of freshness.
THE BAD: Nothing in particular.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Psycho Pass Season Two continues the series to expected quality, featuring a new cast of main characters, led by Akane. Similarities to season one give a welcomed return while the differences provide a great new sense of the world. Otaku Dome gives Psycho Pass Season Two an 88 out of 100.
