Warner Bros. & Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe have announced the second reboot of classic animated series The Powerpuff Girls. Originally debuting in 1998 on Cartoon Network the series ran for 78 episodes and even had a theatrical film release. In 2016 the series was rebooted with a modern bent and ran for three seasons without McCracken or the original cast’s involvement. A Japanese anime and manga adaptation of the series known as Powerpuff Girls Z ran between 2006 & 2007. A live-action adaptation of the series was announced by The CW, but has since entered development hell following a number of circumstances including a poorly received leaked script of the pilot episode.
In addition to The Powerpuff Girls, McCracken will also be working on a preschool aimed reimagining of his series Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. The original series ran for six seasons at 79 episodes. While the new Powerpuff Girls series has been labeled as a reboot it’s currently unclear if it’s a direct continuation of the original 1998 series though the press release says that the new series will expand the world of the original series with classic and new villains. These reboots follow the recently announced The Amazing World of Gumball & Wacky Races reboots.
