After a six year run with The Walking Dead, comic book author Robert Kirkman returns to TV with his second adaptation; supernatural horror drama series Outcast. In Outcast main character Kyle Barnes faces the sudden rise in demonic possession that has plagued his childhood, only this time it’s effecting his friends and family as well as his entire town. Being a unique ability to drive out “the evil forces” with the aide of the local Reverend, Kyle looks to protect those closes to him before they become completely lost to the possession.
THE GOOD: As the series moves forward, Outcast slowly reveals the truth behind the threat Kyle Barnes faces. These threats range from “normal” people to the possessed ones, despite their reputation however, the series tries to get the viewers to sympathize with the possessed, by giving them a fairly human like outward appearance as they adjust to their new lives, however they have a violent reaction to the possession at the start.
THE BAD: The start of the season is a tad slow, but everything comes to a head by the midway point.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Regardless of a slow rocky beginning, Outcast brings true horror to TV. While the plot may be done to death, Outcast’s story and own original spin makes for a chilling experience throughout it’s opening season. Season 1’s twists and turns and epic season finale brings big insights into what Kyle and his family will face as the series moves forward. Otaku Dome gives Outcast Season 1 an 85 out of 100.
