One Piece Collection 16 continues the home media release coverage of the Thriller Bark ark, this time bringing it to completion, as well as beginning the Spa Island arc and the canon Sabody arc. With three arcs in the collection of this four disc set, One Piece fans have a lot of content to get through.
One Piece is an 1998 shounen anime series, it is produced by Toei Animation, and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD in English.
The 20 episode One Piece set has a lot of canon, and a little filler, which is always great when watching ongoing anime. One Piece is known for a crazy amount of filler, at least as far as the anime is concerned, so getting a set with as little of it as possible is a nice change of pace.
THE GOOD: Collection 16 ends one arc, has one three episode filler arc, and begins a canon arc with several episodes. The Thriller Bark arc introduces new character and Straw Hat pirate Brook, who has become a fan favorite over the years. While there isn’t much point going into to details with the Spa Island arc given it’s length, the Sabody arc is one of the last few arcs before the time skip.
THE BAD: There’s some filler to break the two canon arcs, but it’s only three episodes or so, therefore it’s not really a big deal.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: One Piece Collection 16 is one of the best collections out right now. With mostly canon episodes, and the closing and beginning of the Thriller Bark and Sabody arcs respectively, One Piece fans will have a good time with this English dub set. Otaku Dome gives One Piece Collection 16 an 88 out of 100.
