Noein: To Your Other Self is an Satelight produced anime series on alternative dimensions & time and space. Focusing on main characters Haruka, Karasu, and Yuu, Noein is the story of an inter-dimensional war, as well the alternative versions of some of the main characters.
Noein is an 2005 shounen anime series, it is produced by Satelight, and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
When you look at the Blu-Ray for Noein, the up scaled definition makes it hard to believe that this series was made in 2005. It’s one of the rare cases when Blu-Ray animation ports are actually noticeable to an fairly decent degree. Noein has a sort of child like tone, but as time increases the story goes pretty dark from the initial episodes.
THE GOOD: Noein does a good job of going from a light-hearted almost kid friendly like story to an severely dark story about warring dimensions. The up scaled HD is actually noticeable on Blu-Ray, and looks absolutely beautiful, especially when you consider the anime was produced a decade prior.
THE BAD: Some of the comedy anime tropes felt misplaced as the series advanced in it’s darkened tone.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Noein features excellent animation to be made 10 years prior to it’s Blu-Ray release, and it looks even more beautiful on said Blu-Ray release, something that you don’t really notice with many HD anime ports. The pacing for the light to dark story was decently timed, but some of the comedy used throughout the story felt a bit out of place for the overall direction of the story. Otaku Dome gives Noein: The Complete Series an 75 out of 100.
