Nintendo’s next gen console codenamed the NX has now been released to the public as the ‘Nintendo Switch’ Featuring seamless transition between three modes (dock for TV, portable for on the go, and tabletop), a touch screen, and much more.
The Nintendo Switch is an 2017 handheld/console platform, it is developed and published by Nintendo, it is currently available Worldwide.
The Nintendo Switch was met with a mixed 50/50 reaction, some were underwhelmed by the power of the technology within the device, while others remained optimistic about its potential as a hybrid console. Though some features are missing seventeen days into launch, the charm of being able core titles within The Legend of Zelda franchise as well as our favorite multiplatform titles on the go makes the Nintendo Switch hard to pass up.
THE GOOD: After owning the Nintendo Switch for over a week I can say the most attractive feature of the hybrid console is easily the portability. Though the battery is much weaker and heavily drained depending on the game (for example Breath of the Wild only gets 3 hours of playtime in portable mode), the fact that you can play a console on the go in anyway you choose is an absolute godsend when you consider the possibilities. The kickstand for tabletop mode looks flimsy and easily breakable, but in actuality it’s been made as a break away.
THE BAD: Battery life is heavily drained in portable mode and in the future Nintendo should consider releasing a charging pad in the vein of an iPad or mobile device. Due to it holding more technology, the left Joy Con will experience some occasional disconnects and the battery drains more than the right Joy Con because of the very same reason. There’s some missing features that should have become available at launch. and save data transferring isn’t available forthe time being. The accessories are somewhat expensive.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: The Nintendo Switch is an excellent attempt at something new for gaming consoles and it mostly works. While there’s some missing features and rather pricey accessories, the console’s hybrid design and potential makes it hard to pass up, though some buyers may want to ait until a stronger lineup is available around Fall. Otaku Dome gives the Nintendo Switch a 85 out of 100.
