My Hero Academia’s critical acclaim continues with the adaptation of the Sports Festival, Hero Killer Stain, and Final Exam arcs in season two. Further exploring the class of U.A.’s rise in heroism, Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki, and Iida receive the big story arcs of the season, while others such as Uraraka & Yaoyorozu receive their own development throughout the season’s twenty-five episode run.
My Hero Academia is a 2016 shounen anime series, it is produced by Studio Bones and licensed by Funimation Entertainment, season one and two are currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as streaming services in English, respectively.
Covering three major arcs from the manga within a surprisingly unconstrained 25 episodes, season two of My Hero Academia continues to uphold the quality of Studio Bones. Top tier animation for My Hero Academia were most noticeable for episodes 23, 29, 30, and 34-38. These episodes also feature heavy focus on the other students of UA outside of the core character arcs.
THE GOOD: In an extremely character development heavy second season, My Hero Academia continues lead character Deku’s hero training as he works to replace All Might as the future of One For All. Covering the Sports Festival up to the Final Exams, this season oddly never suffered from time constraints or a lack of proper time given to these three arcs. Granted the Final Exams arc is far shorter than the Sports Festival and Hero Killer Stain arcs, even so they were equally paced and just as equally adapted in quality. One of the more polarizing arcs of the lesser main characters was that of Momo Yaoyorozu, who was going through a bit of an inferiority complex after coming up short in the Sports Festival, other characters such as Tsuyu Asui also got some lime light.
THE BAD: Other than leaving you wanting more? Nothing.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: My Hero Academia’s second season got an episode count increase and it was all for the better. With more character development on the entire roster almost, no feelings of time constraint, and amazing animation from Bones (once again), season two continues the fast and quickly rising shounen series both in Japan and overseas. Otaku Dome gives My Hero Academia Season Two a 98 out of 100.
