Monster is an 1994 seinen manga series, it is published by Shogakukan, and licensed by Viz Media, it is currently available in both print and digital formats in English.
Ever since it’s launch in ’94 Monster has become a legendary manga series, with an anime adaptation that was just as successful, live action films in Japan, and a live action series by Guillermo del Toro and HBO being planned stateside, Monster’s psychological horror story has made it’s way into the hearts millions.
THE GOOD: The cat and mouse chase between Johan and Dr. Kenzo is one of the most intense in the genre, and definitely one of the greastest in manga history. Monster’s artwork by Naoki Urasawa is pretty impressive to be from a couple of decades ago. The consistent twists and turns of Monster will keep readers on their toes until the very end.
THE BAD: Nothing in particular.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Monster is one of the greatest manga series out there, and an instant classic for collectors. Featuring some impressive art for it’s time, a great story, and well written characters, Monster’s Perfect Edition set is perfect for old and new fans looking to get into the series. Otaku Dome gives Monster: The Perfect Edition Volumes 7 and 8 an 88 out of 100.
