In March Comes in Like a Lion, Rei Kiriyama is an introverted teenager reaching the early stages of adulthood and has a tough time dealing with human interaction this is mainly due to the accidental deaths of his sister and parents. After becoming a pro shogi player back in middle school, Rei opts to avoid entering high school focusing instead on becoming independent, he soon has a change of heart. Following the death of his family Rei has also been living with a friend of his father’s named Koda, he also bonds with the Kawamoto family who live close by.
THE GOOD: One of March Comes in Like a Lion’s most charming features is its art and atheistic. It blends in well with its tone and style of direction. Character development is rather heavy with multiple characters feeling as if they received a solid amount of screen time as the series progresses, at least as far as the core cast goes anyways. There’s also a decent soundtrack attached to the series composed by Yukari Hashimoto.
THE BAD: The rather extensive use of exaggerated comedy won’t be for everybody, but those who often add slice of life anime to their collection will probably be used to it by now/
