In the ever evolving world of comic book to screen adaptations Lucifer has once become apart of the conversation. Initially running on FOX from 2016 to 2018 for three seasons the series starring Tom Ellis was cancelled before moving to Netflix for a successful fourth season and an upcoming fifth. Netflix revealed that it too had cancelled the series for the second time. Now news comes that it may be returning for a sixth season and potentially more. It was recently announced that Ellis who stars as the titular character had renewed his contract to play the lead for a sixth season of the series and potentially other shows. The news came to light through reports about a week ago but had since been confirmed by Ellis. Usually when a show is cancelled or ends production with a set date talent are released from their deals. So Ellis renewing came as a surprise. It could be Ellis preparing for a potential future revival, or it could also be Netflix changing their minds on the cancellation due to the recent renewed interest in the series due to it being confirmed that Lucifer was officially apart of the Arrowverse shared universe continuity during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Whichever the case I’m sure things will be made clearer in the coming weeks/months. Lucifer season five premieres on Netflix on sometime this year.
