Having finished up the run of it’s second season last Spring and the home media releases hitting shelves soon after, Aniplex has released the OST of Durarara!!. Featuring tracks from seasons one and two by original composer Makoto Yoshimori, both CD sets including the anime’s musical score and opening and ending themes from the series.
Durarara!! is a 2010 shounen anime series, season one is produced by Brain’s Base & season two is produced by Shuka, it is licensed by Aniplex of America and is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
Editor’s Note: Copies of the Durarara!! OST import CDs were given to us by Aniplex of America for review purposes.
While the light novel and manga adaptations of Durarara!! were slow to hit popularity overseas (and do a degree in Japan), once the anime launched it quickly made a splash in America and in some instances even globally. The 2010 anime adaptation focused on the first three volumes of the light novel source material was picked up by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block after barely a year of finishing it’s run in Japan and it became a big hit for the network and American anime viewers thanks in part to it’s soundtrack.
Composer Makoto Yoshimori who composed both seasons of the acclaimed anime uses a multitude of sound and genre to match the atmosphere & set piece of the anime. With an odd, yet unique mix of comedic beats, to action tracks, to jazzy upbeat songs, Yoshimori flawlessly executes how he thinks the scenery of Durarara!! should be viewed from how the animators have perceived it for every given moment with his soundtracks. As previously mentioned both soundtrack sets cover the ost for both seasons of the anime so your favorites are more than likely featured. It’s a shame these didn’t get English text version releases for the sake of pointing out the names of some tracks featured, but that’s really my only gripe. This is more of a write-up than a full on review, so I won’t provide a score in this situation, however if you’re a collector of anime music and loved the musical sound of Durarara!! you should definitely add these to your collection, especially at the price of about $60 for both sets.
