Kung Fu Panda continues Po’s journey as the Dragon Warrior, this time however, Po is the one who must become a teacher of kung fu. Though a second trilogy has been announced for the franchise, Kung Fu Panda 3 most certainly provides a satisfying ending to the third film, as well as provides a great cap off to the original trilogy, and Po’s role as a rookie of martial arts.

Being a big fan of the Kung Fu Panda franchise, I must admit I’m a tad upset that a second trilogy has basically been confirmed. The third film provides a truly wonderful ending to the series, and Po’s journey from student to master to teacher of martial arts. Funny, well paced, and well written with some ace performances from the cast, Kung Fu Panda 3 is a rare sequel that’s better than it’s predecessors.

THE GOOD: The story of Po’s coming of age journey comes to a satisfying close in Kung Fu Panda 3. Having been reunited with his Father and family, and mastering martial arts to the point of being deemed worthy of teaching it by Master Shifu, Po’s journey has been a long, fun, and enjoyable one. Some funny comedy and great action scenes makes Kung Fu Panda 3 pleasing for kids and adults.

THE BAD: Po’s relationship with the Furious Five isn’t really expanded upon in this film. I understand that plot was more about Po reuniting with his birth family, but some kind of expansion on Po and the Five would have been nice to see.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Had the new trilogy not been announced, Kung Fu Panda 3 would have been an excellent finale to the Kung Fu Panda franchise, that being said, the new trilogy doesn’t make Kung Fu Panda 3 any less of a fantastic film. With a great story, cast, and some fun laughs and action, Kung Fu Panda 3 brings the first trilogy to a wonderful close. Otaku Dome gives Kung Fu Panda 3 an 91 out of 100.
