Jason Bourne is back in a new film marking the return of Matt Damon as the titular. Out now on home media, the film franchise takes Bourne on a dangerous quest to redeem his father’s murder and recover the mysteries of his past. The human weapon takes on the CIA and more in this new epic.
Jason Bourne is an 2016 action-suspense film, it is produced by Perfect World Pictures and distributed by Universal Pictures. It is currently available on DVD, Blu-Ray, 4KHD, and Digital.
Although I’m not 100% familiar with the Bourne franchise having only seen Jason Bourne and and The Bourne Legacy which starred Jeremy Renner, I still felt confident in being able to understand the Bourne character and what he was about. This was graciously aided by flash backs and nods to previous films which made it much easier for newcomers like myself to jump into it. Bourne takes place some time after the events of The Bourne Ultimatum, with the titular character looking to take revenge for his father’s murder, taking no prisoners along the way.
THE GOOD: Newer viewers at the very least will be treated quite fairly watching Jason Bourne, as the character’s history as well as the history of the earlier films are explored. The action sequences are some of the best within the genre, and choreographed incredibly. Damon’s back at the heart of his signature role of a bad ass in the film, which is always fun to see.
THE BAD: Unfortunately, Bourne even with my little viewing experience with the previous films has a feeling of “been there, done that”. This won’t bother fans much as it’s way to expect, but newcomers may not stick around for the franchise throughout its entirety.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Jason Bourne is a solid film for both fans and new audiences looking to give it a taste. While it doesn’t bring too much new to the table from previous films in the franchise, it does provide enough info for new fans to learn about Bourne’s past and bits and pieces of the previous films so they won’t be lost along the way. Otaku Dome gives Jason Bourne 4KHD Ultra an 73 out of 100.
