Ice Age returns for its fifth film in the franchise, this time around the trio of Sid, Manny, and Deigo gather their herd to avoid death from a dangerous meteor shower (inadvertently started by Scrat gaining access to a spaceship). Meanwhile Manny tries to come to terms with the upcoming wedding of daughter Peaches.
Ice Age: Collision Course is an 2016 adventure film, it is produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th FOX Animation, it is distributed by 20th Century FOX. It is currently available on DVD, Blu-Ray, 3D Blu-Ray, and Digital HD.
Growing up with the Ice Age franchise which debuted in 2002, I’d have never imagined that it’d have five films (and a confirmed sixth on the way) while grossing over $3 Billion box office throughout it’s lifetime. Originally The Herd consisted of Diego, Sid, and leader Manny, but overtime the group has gained new friends, allies, and family.
THE GOOD: Ice Age: Collision Course tries to keep the franchise going with new developments, new characters, and the return of characters from previous films. Peaches is getting married to debuting character Julian (Adam DeVine), and Manny & Ellie have a tough time coping. Meanwhile, Buck makes his return to warn The Herd of another moment of impending doom as huge meteors come crashing down to Earth thanks to Scrat. The voice cast remains one of the highlights of the franchise featuring the likes of Ray Romano, Jeniffer Lopez, Josh Peck, Keke Palmer, and much more big names.
THE BAD: Characters from the previous film are flat out ignored despite some relevant developments having taken place. Some debuting characters also lack much of an introduction throughout the film.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Ice Age: Collision Course attempts to continue the franchise with returning and new additions into The Herd’s latest adventure. Unfortunately it’s a victim of ‘doing too much in too little time’, which is disappointing for the long-running film series. Otaku Dome gives Ice Age: Collision Course Deluxe Edition 3D Blu-Ray an 69 out of 100.
