Gon and Killua face a tournament of Nen in the Heaven’s Arena arc. Hisoka previously blocked the two the two from entering the arena due to their lack of the aforementioned Nen ability. Hunter X Hunter is a 2011 shounen anime and a reboot of the original 90s anime, it is produced by Studio Bones, and licensed by Viz Media. It is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
Heaven’s Arena is one of Hunter x Hunter fans’ favorite arcs from both the manga and anime circles alike. The arc involves the introduction of Nen, Kuripika’s hunt for the Spiders, and Gon and Hisoka finally squaring off as Gon looks to make good on his and Hisoka’s previous wager in the Hunter Exam.
THE GOOD: While the first few episodes focus on the Nen training of Gon and Killua, we do get a more action packed B story in regards to Kuripika and the Spiders. Out for revenge he takes on the monstrous Uvogiri and defeats him almost effortlessly. As Kuripika continues his dark path to avenge his clansmen, Gon and Killua take on their first battles within the Heaven’s Arena.
THE BAD: Nothing in particular, although Leorio is virtually ignored this arc.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Hunter X Hunter’s third set is another awesome collection of episodes featuring the acclaimed Heaven’s Arena arc. In contrast to the more lighter A Gon & Killua story, Kuripika is the focus of an extremely entertaining B story which provides the catalyst for the series’ future dark tone. Otaku Dome gives Hunter X Hunter Set 3 Blu-Ray an 89 out of 100.
