Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio continue their journeys into becoming hunters, following the last episodes of the Hunters Exam arc and covering the Zoldyck Family arc, set 2 of Hunter x Hunter features a number of twists, turns, and challenges for our heroes to conquer.
Hunter x Hunter is an 2011 reboot of the shounen manga of the same name, it is produced by Studio Bones, and licensed by Viz, it is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
The story of Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio continues in Hunter x Hunter’s second US box set. Taking place in the final episodes of the Hunter Exam’s arc up to the Heaven’s Arena arc, the group must face enemies such as the deadly Hisoka, and even Killua’s own family as they look for him to return home.
THE GOOD: Hunter x Hunter has an admittedly slow start from the Hunter Exam arc, but those who stick with it are treated with the series going into complete overdrive. The series slowly matures as the arcs go on and some of its darker elements cut through like a knife, one of which includes the dark past of Killua; the young boy who’s been trained as an assassin since he was a child. Despite his hard life however, Killua did make friends with his butlers and has a seemingly solid relationship with his father.
THE BAD: Thirteen episode count, Gon & Killua admittedly take up too much focus.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Set 2 of Hunter x Hunter 2011 has Gon & Killua as the stars and finishes off the Hunter Exam & Zoldyck arcs as we move on to Heaven’s Arena and nen control. Killua’s torture brings the character to new light and the arc showcases just how important he is to Gon. The lack of Kurapika & Leorio is disappointing however. Otaku Dome gives Hunter x Hunter Set 2 Blu-Ray a 80 out of 100.
