Horror Pack is an new entry into the subscription box game. Having launched in October of last year, the theme of Horror Pack is titular in nature. You can choose an subscription of either the Blu-Ray or DVD packs, both of which come with their own unique set of four films per pack. Occasionally you could even end up with an special edition of a film, such as a steelbook Blu-Ray copy.
Horror Pack is an 2015 horror themed subscription box service. For $19.99 you can get a DVD pack or for $24.99 you can get an Blu-Ray pack.
Being a longtime fan of the horror genre, when I first found out about Horror Pack, I got curious and wanted to see if they could help horror fans build an respectable DVD and/or Blu-Ray collection. After receiving my first box for review, I can say I’m impressed with the first showing.
Editor’s Note: Review copy for box received.
THE GOOD: One of the things I love about Horror Pack is options, and there’s plenty of the, Though the formats are only between DVD & Blu-Ray, the different movie options included in the Horror Packs are mixed between mainstream horror such as Alien, and cult classic indies such as Shaun of the Dead. Both the DVD & Blu-Ray packs include their own unique films, so the odds of getting the same film in a different format (not citing you previously owning it before subscribing of course), are slim to none. There’s also the chance of grabbing an special edition here and there, which is awesome.
THE BAD: DVDs and Blu-Rays being in separate packs is cool, but it’d be great if they release a pack that mixes the two in the future.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: As far as being a horror fan and a movie collector goes, Horror Pack does exactly what it’s intended to do. A good mix of different horror films between mainstream and the lesser known makes it extremely tempting for even the most cautious horror fan. However, a mixed box included both Blu-Ray and DVD in the future would be a hreat plus. Otaku Dome gives Horror Pack an 89 out of 100.
