Are you old enough to remember, or at least old enough to remember people who were old enough to remember talking about the FMV era of video games? Also known as Full-Motion Video it was a genre of video games that instead of graphics used real-life actors to portray the characters. Most of the games were panned critically. However some like Night Trap have received a cult following. Developer Visible Games is looking to do the genre justice with it’s new title Ghosts.
Written by Zoom horror film Host writer Jed Shepard the game has players across the world playing in an event to ensure the cast’s survival. There’s one problem though, you can only play at 10:00 P.M. local time otherwise you’ll be met with a black screen. The reason behind this is due to the fact that the developers want all players involved simultaneously. It sounds like an insane, yet brilliant idea in theory, but will it work in practice? This of course will be dependent on how the severs react. Especially if the player count is more than expected for the server to handle. The team at the very least seem confident in the project. There isn’t many details about Ghosts currently. But the trailer does seem to indicate that choices matter.
Including disobeying the 10:00 PM rule. Ghosts is currently set to release for PC, Playstation consoles, and Nintendo Switch on February 22, 2022. A premise and trailer for the game can be seen below:
“Ghosts will see you take the role of a TV producer operating a channel called FrighTV as you guide a team of ghost hunters on the search of an entity called The Long Lady who’s said to kill those that look upon her face. The twist is that the game will be playable in real time, with the game going “live” at 10pm in your local time zone every night, where you’ll be playing with other people also watching live. If you try and access the game before that 10pm timeslot however, you’ll be greeted with a test card containing a hidden puzzle that can be unlocked to allow you to play a special “pre-watershed” version of the game that allows you to save your progress and prepare you for the live game.”
