From director Alex Poryas comes the once anticipated Gods of Egypt, an action fantasy film with an all star cast about the ancient Egyptian deities. Visually Gods of Egypt is great to look at, admittedly there’s times when it feels like a “wash, rinse, repeat” process, but for what it’s worth Gods of Egypt is a fun movie if you’re ableto stick with it from start to finish.
Gods of Egypt is an 2016 fantasy action film, it is produced by Thunder Road Pictures and distributed by Lionsgate & Summit Entertainment. It releases on 3D Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, and DVD on May 31, 2016, it is currently available on Digital HD.
Gods of Egypt was one of the extremely hyped films for the first half of 2016. While many will find it disappointing, if you’re just looking for a random action flick to kill time Gods of Egypt is actually fairly satisfying, despite the casting controversy. All things considered, Gods of Egypt earns itself at least one full length viewing.
THE GOOD: The film is visually stunning while scenes featuring CGI are in play, and there’s quite a few. Perfomances by the cast are pretty solid mostly, and the action scenes are nicely choreographed. The “battle of Egyptain Gods” story has been done before, but Gods of Egypt’ script is still interesting enough with some originality.
THE BAD: While the CGI is great, it often feels like Gods of Egypt is too dependent on it. It’s rather unfortunate that Gods of Egypt is another film based on Egyptian mythology, but fails to stay accurate with its casting. If you can look past this though, Gods of Egypt can be an extremely fun action film.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Gods of Egypt is a fun, fast paced action film with some pretty CGI. There are times when it feels like there’s a bit too much need for it though, and the casting issue is a shame. However, all it’s issues aside, the movie manages to be a decent fantasy action film. Otaku Dome gives Gods of Egypt an 74 out of 100.
