Does Fast 6 speed alongside the success of the past entries in the franchise, or does it run low on gas? Check out our review in order to find out.

SPOILERS ALERT, SPOILERS ALERT: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BOTH FAST 6 AND FAST 7, IF YOU HAVE YET TO SEE FAST 6, AND DO NOT WISH TO BE SPOILED,, THEN PLEASE DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS WARNING! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Fast 6 is the sixth entry into the long-running car racing transitioned into heist move franchise The Fast and the Furious, which started back in 2001 (if I recall correctly). Like the previous two titles, the film has a very large all-star cast, most of which were previously involved with the franchise in one or two movies prior to Fast and Furious (fourth entry). The film stars Fast regulars Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, while also starring regular casts members since the fourth and fifth films, including: Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson,  Dwayne Johnson, Sung Kang, Jordana Brewster, and surprisingly enough Michelle Rodriguez. The film also introduces new comers to the franchise: Luke Evans, and Gina Carano.

Brian be bossin’

The film takes place a few months after the events of Fast 5, Dom, Brian and the rest of the crew finally settle down as millionaires with Brian starting a family with Dom’s sister. Soon afterwards Commander Luke Hobbs shows up, asking Dom and co. for help in order to take down a team of crooks, who are surprisingly a mirror image of themselves.

Things get crazy pretty quickly, we are soon thrown into a racing scene featuring Dom, his crew, and the aforementioned crooks. After the chase the crew regroups to their HQ to come up with some sort of plan, and Hobbs informs Dom of the now living Letty. It is revealed that Letty lost her memory in the explosion, and was thrown off of a cliff.

The reason behind Letty’s return was very well-written and clearly explained. It was far better than I thought it was going to be (so glad it wasn’t another “faked my death” tale. Justin Lin and Chris Morgan went down the correct route with this film’s script. Honestly, there was so much that could have went wrong, but everything came about great upon the final version of the film.

Dom and Letty together again.

Ludacris and Tyrese were once again the subjects of comic relief, that wasn’t a bad thing actually. In fact most of the funniest jokes came from the two. Gina Carano was basically a filler character who just felt kike she was there just because. Although she did have a cool fight scene with Rodriguez. and her character’s sudden betrayal of Hobbs was unexpected. The highway chase where Letty regroups with Dom was a really cool moment, especially with the climax.

Not exactly the climax of said scene, but still pretty sweet.

Luke Evans did a fantastic job as Ian Shaw, but part of his character felt off at times, I can;t exactly explain this, but this was a feelign I got during certain scenes of his. Dwayne  Johnson once again did good work as Luke Hobbs. Looking back a spin off featuring his character wouldn’t be such a bad idea, I don’t see how it’d work considering most of his team was killed in Fast 5 unless the spinoff is a prequel.

The heads of the crew.

Then there was perhaps the greatest Fast scene, since Vin Diesel surprised the audiences of Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift after appearing at the end credits scene to challenge Lucas Black’s character Sean to a race in respect of Han’s death. The villain for Fast 7 was revealed before the very eyes of the audiences, and had their jaws completely dropped to the floor, and rightfully so.

*DRUM ROLL PLEASE*

At the absolute climax of Fast 6,  Crank, The Transporter, and Parker star Jason Statham  was revealed as the main antagonist of the upcoming sequel, Owen Shaw, seeking revenge for the death of his brother Ian. It was also revealed that that the latter Shaw is responsible for the death of Han. Audiences every went nuts at Statham’s Fast 7 reveal. It was probably one of the biggest film “shocks” in quite some time.

Fast 6 gets Otaku dome’s first movie score of  [rating=4].
