In the latest Fairy Tail release, Natsu and the gang continue their rescue of the Celestial Spirits. Continuing where Part 18 left off with the filler arc, Natsu and the Fairy Tail wizards face off against the Celestial Spirits in a final showdown to return them to their normal selves and save their lives.
Fairy Tail is an 2009 shounen anime series, it is produced by A-1 Pictures, and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available through streaming services, DVD, and Blu-Ray in English.
While the Celestial Spirit arc isn’t the worst out there, the most annoying thing about Fairy Part 19 is the fact that this set is basically 100% filler. Fairy Tail has it’s far share of filler arcs, but not compared to the likes of Naruto, One Piece, etc. This arc however, felt incredibly too long taking up most of the second half of Part 18, and pretty much Part 19 in it’s entirety barring a few episodes. Again, while the arc isn’t that bad, manga fans who aren’t into filler will likely skip out on this set due to the amount of filler contained.
THE GOOD: If I have to say one thing about the Celestial Spirits arc, it provides us with a ton of Loki, who was relegated to a support character after a few canon arcs, and hasn’t been seen very much, beyond the pop ins here and there since. Even with him playing the villain this time around, Loki is still a fairly entertaining character. The opposite personalities of the Celestial Spirits are at least fun to see for what they are.
THE BAD: This arc is entirely too long for filler, I can’t recall the exact count, but when you factor in the second half of Part 18, I’d wager in the episode count for this arc to be at least twenty-two episodes. That’s a bit much for an arc that isn’t in the manga, plus the odd ball filler episodes that follow upon finishing the arc. It also doesn’t help that for a majority of the arc the Celestial Spirits don’t feel all that threatening throughout the second half of the arc’s run.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Fairy Tail Part 19 is an rather OK arc for the most part. It’s fun seeing the reverse personalities of the Celestial Spirits and Loki gets a ton of screen time which is awesome. The filler episode count is a bit much though, which is really the only downer. Otaku Dome gives Fairy Tail Part 19 an 72 out of 100.
