The finale for the original Fairy Tail series has come, and a major plot point from the manga is underway. There’s still no sign of Funimation licensing the sequel, and with the original airing having only just reached its 54th episode as of this writing, it may be sometime before we get news about a license holder for the sequel in North America. With that said, the final episodes of the original Fairy Tail bundle into Part 15 gave us some amazing fight scenes and some emotional moments for both Fairy Tail and Sabertooth.

Fairy Tail is an 2009 anime series, it is produced by A-1 Pictures and Bridge, and licensed by Funimation. The original series is available in streaming services and on DVD and Blu-Ray in its entirety.

This last year or so that I’ve been playing catch up with Fairy Tail been fun, while the canon would sometimes be interrupted by filler arcs (including a rather unenjoyable one), the arcs that were canon featured some fun fights and great adventure scenes. It’s kind of sad seeing the North American release of Fairy Tail on hold until Funimation or another license owner gets a hold of the sequel rights.

THE GOOD: The final episodes of the original series was all canon with no filler (at least not related to the main story), and the last few fights were extremely fun to watch. And how awesome was Erza taking on the 100 monsters? The closing moments of the final episode has a cliffhanger of sorts which is a downer, but the cliffhanger is revealed somewhat before the episode ends.

THE BAD: The big Dragon Slayer battle that was anticipated throughout the season’s entirety was a major tease. And while part 15 had some good fights, Fairy Tail would often seem over powered.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: The end of the original Fairy Tail series has come. With nothing but canon from this point onward, at least for awhile Part 15 gives us a fun thrill with some good adventure, and some even greater action. Admittedly the Dragon Slayer battle was a disappointment, and Fairy Tail seemed over powered at times, but the overall direction of the final episodes is Fairy Tail at its absolute best. Otaku Dome gives Fairy Tail Part 15 an 90 out of 100.
