After 545 chapters, 63 volumes, and nearly an eleven year run, Hiro Mashima’s popular follow-up to previous work Rave Master; Fairy Tail has come to an end. Natsu, Happy, Lucy, and the rest of the Fairy Tail guild are looking at life post-Acnologia, and a few doors are closed on some unanswered questions, unfortunately not every story has a satisfying ending.

Fairy Tail is a 2006 shounen manga series, it is written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima, and licensed by Kodansha. The series will conclude its run on July 26, 2017.

“The door’s to Fairy Tail are open any time!”

Editor’s Note: As stated in the title, this review contains near complete to complete spoilers for the final chapter of Fairy Tail.

Launching in August 2006, series mangaka Hiro Mashima, best known for fan-favorite series Rave Master, told a story of a guild home to a number of different mages & spell casters entitled Fairy Tail. Lead by main characters Natsu, Happy, and Lucy the three would go on adventures and quests in home country Earth-land, later joined by Gray Fullbuster & Erza Scarlet, the group would face dangers of all kinds from dragons, to dark mages, and more while bonding as a family.

The reborn Mavis & Zeref?

THE GOOD: Fairy Tail’s finale chapter while admittedly lack luster, did close the door on a number of chapters including Gajeel & Levy (the latter of whom is pregnant), Elfman & Eva, Mavis & Zeref, Erza & Jellal (albeit more subtle), and even Gray & Juvia get a bit of closure on their relationship. Almost everyone gets a closing moment to their own personal journeys, but that’s the problem “almost everyone”. Oh and Lucy is an up & coming author.

Levy informs Gajeel of her pregnancy.

THE BAD: Not everyone gets closure including Natsu & Lucy, while this may upset fans, when Lucy basically confesses to him, he downplays it in typical, oblivious Natsu fashion, so it’s left open on his end.

Lucy embraces Natsu.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: While Fairy Tail has had plenty of ups & downs, you have to respect Mashima sort of leaving its ending in a way up to the fan’s imaginations for certain character arcs, and the final panel (with the group leaving for a quest in a “business as usual sort of way) highlights Mashima’s decision to go in this direction. Perhaps we’ll get a more direct bit of closure for every character in a future spin-off? Otaku Dome gives Fairy Tail Chapter 545 a 75 out of 100.
