Empire’s second season comes home to DVD ahead of it’s season three premiere. In the second season of the acclaimed musical drama, vie for control over Empire Entertainment continues and becomes more sinister than ever. Sabotage, injury, and even death is the name of the game for those looking to come out on top in season two of Empire.
Empire is an 2014 musical drama series, it is produced by Imagine Television, and distributed by 20th Century FOX Television. It is currently available on digital and DVD.
In season two of Empire the series ups the ante on the twists and turns from season one. Taking place three months after the arrest of Lucious, Cookie organizes a #FreeLucious concert full of musical talent in efforts to support him, however in reality she’s continuing her plot of taking over Empire Entertainment with the remainder of the family. However, in a rather shocking turn of events Jamal reveals that he’s been working with Lucious and Mimi the entire time.
THE GOOD: The music featured in the soundtrack for Empire is as great as ever in season two. Featuring tracks from artist such as Alicia Keys, Jussie Smollett, and many, many more the soundtrack helps bring the world together, and actually feel like a musical drama. Speaking of the drama, in season two things have been turned up to one-hundred, with the Jamal and Mimi twist, Rhonda’s pregnancy, Hakeem becoming CEO of Empire, and many other plot twists in the eighteen episode season.
THE BAD: Nothing in particular.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Empire is a self-aware soap opera, musical drama that continually keeps viewers on their toes. With an excellent soundtrack, fantastic cast performances, and turns throughout the season, Empire season two improves upon it’s formula in a rare way nothing often seen in TV. Otaku Dome gives Empire: The Complete Second Season DVD an 83 out of 100.
