With Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle’s release quickly looming upon us, I thought it’d be fun to discuss & mention my personal top 5 mechanics from the RTS crossover. In the Mario/Raving Rabbids mash-up, you play as three characters of your choice, between Mario characters & Rabbids versions of said Mario characters. After careful consideration I’ve put together the list ranging from customization, to core gameplay.
Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a 2017 turn-based tactical RPG game, it is developed & published by Ubisoft exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, it releases August 29, 2017.
1: Weapon Variety:
With over one-hundred weapons spread across the eight characters, and all eight having weapons exclusive & unique to said characters. One of Kingdom Battle’s most attractive features is the albeit it small customization of characters between Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, and the Rabbits cosplaying as them. For now the only known customization is for weapons, but that could change into costumes and other designs upon the final build.
2: Newcomer Friendly Gameplay:
While turn-based tactical gameplay isn’t everyone’s favorite gameplay genre, Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is looking to introduce players into the genre with a very rookie friendly core gameplay style, so even non-seasoned players of games such as XCOM will be able to enjoy themselves, perhaps mainly due to the fact that Ubisoft wants the title to be played in small doses rather than in large sittings.
3: Slightly Open World Map:
While not necessarily the biggest map out there, Kingdom Battle does have somewhat of an open world. Full of multiple routes, coin hunting, and distractions to keep you busy for a few minutes before going on to the end of the area.
4: The Environment Comes Into Play:
Whether it’s for your own protection, or to use as strategy to take out one enemy after the next, during gameplay the environment in battle will play a big part in both gaining the upper-hand, as well as the victory over opponents such as bosses.
5: Boss Fights Look Like a Ton of Fun:
Although we’ve only seen a single boss fight since its initial introduction, it’s fairly obvious that Kingdom Battle will continue its Mario/Rabbids crossover style in as many ways as possible including nods to non-present characters from within the Mario universe, check out the first boss fight below (please let the final boss be inspired by Bowser):
