The middle point of Dragon Ball Z Kai’s final chapters have released on home media. In this epic set a number of fan favorite moments occur, including the debut of Super Saiyan 3, the wrath of Majin Vegeta, and the monster Majin Buu alongside his master Babidi making their move just to name a few.
Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters is a 2015 anime retelling of the original Dragon Ball Z series, it is produced by Toei Animation, and licensed by Funimation Entertainment. It is currently available on DVD & Blu-Ray in English.
The major plot points of the final arc of Dragon Ball’s current canon comes to head as Majin Buu & Babidi plan their attack. Having failed to stop Buu’s revival, the Z Fighters must work together in order to defeat their most powerful foes, however Vegeta has different ideas as he uses his Majin power in an effort to defeat Goku.
THE GOOD: As a retelling of the original Dragon Ball Z more heavily focused on the source material than canon, Kai is great for those new to the franchise, or looking to marathon it again without wanting to be dragged down by filler. There’s something special about watching a few dozen episodes of an ongoing series at a time compared to several hundreds. The cleaned up animation for Blu-Ray also looks pretty nice and neat.
THE BAD: New voice acting still isn’t appealing for long-time fans.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Part Two of The Final Chapters of Kai is a lot better than Kai’s original efforts. Though the new voice actors/actresses do take some getting used to over the original Funimation dub, it’s still a solid step in the Dragon Ball Z retake. Otaku Dome gives Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters a 80 out of 100.
