A few days ago a new Dragon Ball film continuing Dragon Ball Super set for release in 2022 was leaked and confirmed by Toei Animation. Not only will there be a new film coming, but there has also been confirmation of a new anime series sequel in production. And this was done so intentionally by a Toei Animation animator. There’s been rumors for years that when the Digimon reboot finishes it’s run it would be replaced by a new anime and it had been speculated to be a would be Dragon Ball Super 2. This has since been confirmed on Toei’s newly launched global Dragon Ball website. While no date or specifics were given the site hosted an interview with an animator who works for Toei Animation’s recently established Philippines animation branch and he confirmed that a new anime was in production.
Unusually these things should be taken with caution as there’s always room for error with translation issues and second hand information. However, this was an interview intentionally conducted and translated by Toei themselves. And with the hype the film has received it would make sense for them to continue riding high by nonchalantly announcing a new anime adaptation to go along with it. The interviewee was Florence Jay Dominguito and he was being interviewed over his time with Toei since joining back in 2011. When mentioning the new anime Dominguito was quoted as followed:
What hopes and expectations do you have for the future of the Dragon Ball franchise?
As a fan, I’m really looking forward to new movies and merchandise. I’m also excited about the new anime that will continue Dragon Ball Super.
Dragon Ball Super Movie 2 releases sometime in 2022 and will be a new original, canonical story by mangaka Akira Toriyama.
