After a rocky launch, and a few persisting problems still in need of fixing, there was no stopping Ubisoft’s The Division from breaking sales quotas for the year, despite predictions that said otherwise, Ubisoft revealed today that Tom Clancy’s The Division is the top selling game of 2016 thus far. While the game itself was hit with an unfortunate number of glitches upon launching, it still managed to be decent to well received by critics for it’s crafting, shared world elements, and giving a true console comparison to modern Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs on PC.
The Division while not having much expectations in sales, already made a name for itself by being the best selling new game franchise upon release. Having sold well over what Ubisoft was expecting for the new shooter in an already tough genre to enter within the gaming market earning an estimated $330 Million on launch week. With high levels of competition already out and the new Call of Duty not being released at this point in time, Ubisoft’s sales record for The Division is quite an impressive feat. For the time being Ubisoft has concentrated on fixing the remaining glitches present within the game and releasing new downloadable content to increase replay value, but The Division from a marketing standpoint has had an amazingly strong 2016.
