THE GOOD: Darker than Black is an anime series focused on assassins and being with supernatural abilities, so naturally great animation and action sequences were featured. The double life of Hei as an Contractor and Li Shenshun provided good balance between the two personas, as Hei would do his job, Li would ac as his human side. In season two focus completely shifts to Hei as Li and he must learn to survive as a Human.
THE BAD: Newer anime fans may not appreciate the series due to its somewhat dated animation style.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Darker than Black does a good job of telling the story of a double life. Main character Hei shows both his cold-hearted and Human sides throughout the series, that surprises his colleagues. The switch from Contractor to total Human ins season two was an excellent transition between his two personas. The action and animation in Darker than Black are fun to watch, though newer anime fans may not be too fond of the dated animation. Otaku Dome gives Darker than Black seasons one and two an 78 out of 100.
