While reports of Daniel Bryan being held down by WWE is being said to be nothing more than a work, a very real, very serious situation is occurring backstage at WWE. This time it’s involving Former WWE Champion CM Punk,. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Punk told Vince McMahon he was “going home” shortly before the show went live. There was already reports of the show going through several re-writes including one that included Elimination Chamber qualifier matches, however this was obviously changed to the 6-man tag match featuring The Shield, John Cena, Sheamus, and Daniel Bryan.
Punk has been removed from all live events from this point moving forward, and has not been named in the advertisements on WWE.com for upcoming shows. Punk has been known to get upset backstage when there was something going on that he didn’t like. If I had to take a guess, I’d assume he isn’t happy with the way Daniel Bryan has been treated by WWE Officials as far as his character getting pushed goes. Punk & Bryan are great friends and have been since their independent circuit days, so it would make sense for this to be a possible reason for his apparent departure. CM Punk’s current contract ends around this year’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view, and he has made it known publicly that he is unsure about re-signing.
