Well that didn’t take long. DC writer & producer Geoff Johns who recently stepped down as DC Chief Creative Officer last month to produce TV & film content for DC Comics & Warner Bros. Pictures has already announced his first project and it hits close to home for the DC producer; a live-action Stargirl series. Stargirl is the first character Johns created for DC Comics back in 1999. Johns commented on the series announcement via Deadline:
“Obviously, Stargirl was the first character I created for DC,” Johns told me Thursday of the 1999 debuting stepdaughter of the Star-Spangled Kid. “Most important, Courtney Whitmore was inspired by my sister who passed away,” he added. “To have an opportunity to tell a story celebrating this superhero was literally the first thing I wanted to do because it is so personal to me. Also, a character that speaks to being young, to a legacy and to pushing forward seems so important to me nowadays.”
Logline: High school student [Courtney] Whitmore bands together with the Justice Society of America to fight villains, past and present.
DC Universe is slated for a beta next month in August with a full service launch for later this year at $7.99 a month & $74.99 a year.
