In news that will likely put smiles on some faces depending on how you look at it, the final season of Attack on Titan is scheduled to produce more episodes. The announcement was made following the end of the first half of the final season which ended in sixteen episodes. Many were unsure if the anime would be able to do the manga justice with the last run of it’s adaptation due to the fact that the current set of episodes were confirmed to cover chapters 91-116 out of the 139 total of the original source. The theory was the series would eventually be finished with a film finale, but Studio MAPPA got the greenlit for a second cour of episodes to ensure that the manga would be adapted properly. These episodes are entering production for the first time as of this writing with them scheduled to air in Winter 2022 meaning it’ll be another year plus wait to see the story conclude with the anime. The first cour of the finale season ended March 28, 2021.
